Batman: Creature of the Night (2017-)

Anyone reading this series? Waited for almost a year and finally picked up the final issue. End was worth the wait. A very interesting take on living out a comic book fantasy to work through life’s problems.

I just read Batman: Creature of the Night. I’m honestly at a loss for words. I hate to be vitriolic but I know that I wanted to hurl the book across the room when I finished. There is so much hype around this story and the payoff just wasn’t there. As a kid who grew up so similarly to Bruce Wainwright (with a life-changing fascination with The Batman), I am confused and shocked by the turn of events. It almost hurts me to think about this book. I’m a positive person by nature though and will end it on these high notes: the art is really nice with a classic Year One style, the writing is smooth and consistent throughout, and the characters/story are interesting - albeit divisive. Check it out for yourself. I can very firmly confirm that it was NOT for me.

May the Schwartz be with you.
