DC Comics Presents (1978-) #19
This was an odd one for sure. On paper Superman and Batgirl teaming up sounded like a great idea, a variation on the World’s Finest. But then aside from the odd story, which was Bronze Age weirdness personified the two characters never really interact much, and this story didn’t really benefit from having Batgirl in it. Could have easily been a straight Superman story, it didn’t really feel like it took advantage of the fun team-up.
For what it was this wasn’t a bad issue, and I do take into account the era it was written in. But like so many Bronze Age Superman comics, this one was something that seemed to have a really interesting idea lined up, but their execution never 100% lined up with it’s ambitions.
