Green Lantern (1960-) #19
Issues 10-19 did not see much development in the comic. There is not much character development, the exposition is not great, and the power ring never runs out of new and ridiculous uses. The stories retain the sci-fi camp (which is fine with me) and are (mostly) enjoyable. The “serial” feel of these issues feels a bit stronger, seeing three Sinestro issues, a Flash team up, a recurring villain named Sonic and the appearance of Star Sapphire. Also here we move in 1963 in the “real world”. I thought maybe there would be some social influences reaching in; Vietnam, Civil Rights, the counter culture. Nothing. The outside world was not as innocent as these books read. I suppose at this point these were still very much considered to be for children, but it would be nice to at see some of the larger issues of the day being pulled into GL’s universe. Overall enjoyable. Dated, but enjoyable. Next ten on deck, back then.
