Well…that’s one way to reinvent John Stewart…
I liked the first volume a lot and I have faith in the creative team. Invisible Republic was incredible. But, yeah; admittedly I’m not entirely sure about making John a Yellow Lantern.
To be fair, we also don’t really know what the Yellow Lanterns are going to be “like” in this continuity. One of the things that really surprised me in Vol. 1 was just how different it was in terms of what you’d usually expect from a Green Lantern story (while remaining true to the core concept). Hal especially was a very different character from regular Hal, so there’s no telling what John’s going to be like, either.
Honestly it’s kinda exciting to not know what to expect from a story starring a big name character for a change.
Yeah. Also, if nothing else, Hardman’s art is gorgeous, so I know it’ll be worth the price of admission for that alone. Plus, Bechko is a great writer. Point being, I trust the creative team to pull it off.
I think I’m more thrown off by John being a physicist than by his being a Yellow Lantern. I was just in the middle of thinking about how maybe his military background led to him seeing the efficacy of fear in keeping peace, and then saw he’s a physicist in this. So much for that theory.
