Swamp Thing (2011-) #30
This is more something I want to say about the general “New 52 run” than just this specific issue but… I think some of the creative decisions that were taken were completely wrong for Swamp Thing. First off, taking him back to BEING Alec Holland instead of being a plant who thinks it is Alec Holland drives the character miles back. Secondly, I think the parliament of trees is written in a way that is much less compelling and well… interesting. The reason there was a parliament of trees, the way I understood it back when I read the Alan Moore run, was that when the humanity of an elemental had almost completely disappeared he came to the parliament to rest with his brethren, living the rest of his life as a tree in harmony with the rest of the Green. Not that when his body inside his vegetation husk died he had to “retire”. With tha change, the way the parliament was characterized changed completely and in my opinion overly rehumanized, ruining the great points of the story.
